Surgical error often leads to uneven legs after hip surgery

Each year, over 300,000 individuals undergo surgery for a hip replacement. Over the course of the next 15 years, it is expected for that number to increase by double. With each added surgery, the chance of a complication increases. Hip replacement surgeries -- in New York and across the nation -- are known for a particular major complication: one leg being shorter or longer than the other leg, which is often the result of a surgical error.

Leaving a loved one in a nursing home is a major decision. Family members may fear that the loved one will not receive all of the care he or she deserves in New York. When that level of care is not provided and results in the serious injury or death of another, they can be held liable for their negligence. Recently, a young boy's family filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against a doctor and the hospital where he practices for allegedly misdiagnosing their son, which ultimately resulted in his death.

Amputations have been the subject of a considerable number of medical malpractice claims. Carelessness in the treatment of circulatory problems and the failure to spot advancing infections can constitute medical negligence. In addition to doctor errors, hospital negligence in New York and other states has caused unnecessary amputations when the wrong limb is amputated or even when a limb is mistakenly amputated in a surgery scheduled for some other procedure.

A prescription error could be at fault for a death in the home

When someone is sick in New York, they will generally visit the doctor or the Emergency Room, depending on their individual situation and the time of day or night it is. Further, patients expect the the medical professionals they see will be able to safely and effectively nurse them back to health. In some cases, this may require a shot in the office, a dose of antibiotics or even a prescription narcotic for pain. However, doctors see hundreds of patients in any given day, and unfortunately, it is not uncommon for a prescription error to occur.
